Carlos A. Migoya and Jackson Health System Named as Recipient of the 2014 Alvah H. Chapman, Jr. Humanitarian Award

MIAMI,– Sept. 22, 2014 – Chapman Partnership announced Carlos A. Migoya and Jackson Health System as its 2014 recipient of the Alvah H. Chapman, Jr. Humanitarian Award for continuously leading the way in Carlos_A_Migoya supporting and assisting the homeless in Miami-Dade County. The award will be presented to Mr. Migoya, President & CEO of Jackson Health System at Chapman Partnership’s 13th Annual Gala on November 1, 2014, at the JW Marriott Marquis in downtown Miami.

“We chose to honor Carlos Migoya and Jackson Health System because of Carlos’ personal commitment, his leadership and the effort of all healthcare professionals at Jackson Health System to ensure that the homeless of our community receive world-class healthcare, dignity and respect,” said Trish Bell, chairman of Chapman Partnership’s board of trustees. “Jackson Health System’s continued support, management and staffing of our two health clinics enables us to meet the critical healthcare needs of the homeless residents at our two centers serving Miami-Dade County.”

The Alvah H. Chapman, Jr. Humanitarian Award is given at the annual gala to an individual or organization in Miami-Dade County who has been instrumental in leading the challenge of helping homeless men, women and children in our community.

“Being recognized by an organization for which I care so deeply is truly an honor,” Carlos  Migoya, President & CEO, Jackson Health System,  said. “My involvement with Chapman Partnership and with Jackson is part of my ongoing work to honor the legacy of Alvah Chapman, who defined service and community for everyone who loves South Florida.”

A key component of Chapman Partnership’s services is providing resources to support the physical and mental health of residents. Through partnerships with key providers, residents have access to state-of-the-art on-site health resources.

Jackson Health System has been a valuable partner of Chapman Partnership since 1995 when the downtown center first opened and has since seen more than 167,000 patient visits. The clinics become their primary care provider during their stay, and offer a highly cost-effective approach to serving the homeless as compared to emergency room visits which homeless individuals utilize multiple times a year, thereby saving the community $1,000,000 per year in ER services.

The 13th Annual Chapman Partnership “Illuminations” Gala will be held on Saturday, November 1 at the JW MARRIOTT MARQUIS.  Proceeds from this gala help fund Chapman Partnership’s life changing programs and services to the homeless men, women and families that reside at its two centers.  The event co-chairs are Susan Kahn & Lani Kahn Drody  and Norma Quintero & Alessandra Quintero.
